I am a native of West Virginia. Born in Parkersburg, I spent my early childhood in the rural community
of Munday in Wirt County, and lived near Walton in Roane County during my high school years. I studied Secretarial
Science at West Virginia Career College in Charleston where I completed my courses in 1987 with honors.
I moved to South Carolina as an adult, following my love of the ocean. After twelve years as a Report Analyst for a healthcare
organization, I resigned in March 2009 to become full-time caregiver for my mother, Naomi Karen (Maze) Richard, who grew
up near Big Bend in Calhoun County, West Virginia. My mother passed away in March 2011.
I am listed in the Directory of Poets & Writers as both a poet and creative nonfiction writer.
I have always enjoyed writing since I was in school, but started writing seriously when I became full-time caregiver for my mother in 2009. Writing became therapy for me, a way of healing.
I enjoy writing poetry about things which inspire me, whether it's personal experiences or the beauty I find in nature.
